Frances was designed by Peter Deane as early as the 1960s. The name of the fly comes from his assistant Frances Hydon who had the job of tying the flies. The fly was made to mimic a shrimp and, like all other good fishing stories, caught in masses and soon became the dominant fly in Iceland. In retrospect, Frances has proven to be a very effective fly everywhere where salmon and sea trout fish. This tying style must have been a kind of revelation for salmon fishermen at that time, a very unconventional design compared to flies back then. The shape of the body in combination with the long antennas creates a lot of movement and turbulence in the water. Frances is notorious for being particularly effective on reluctant fish that have been standing in the river, the fly also catches freshly caught fish and is a “must” to have in the arsenal! Guidelines Frances has the rich carrot shape and is made with UV material in the body.
